2002 San Diego Comic Convention

This month we have news on some of the toys from the recent 2002 San Diego Comic Convention. Though this was a comic convention, toy makers were there with their newest toys based on comics, TV, and movies. Take a look.

Nightmare Before Christmas toys

NCEA, Inc. will be bringing out a new line of marionettes based on Tim Burton’s popular, “Nightmare Before Christmas” movie. Each figure will be digitally sculpted and hand painted resin marionettes of Halloweentown's favorite couple Jack and Sally. They will stand over 15 inches tall, and should be available in stores now.

New Spawn action figures

Mcfarlane Toys was present at the convention this time around. Among other things, they featured a new line of Spawn action figures and accessories, which was by far the most popular at the Mcfarlane booth. The impressive lineup of spawn toys is just too big to describe here, but here is a short list. First off, we got a peak at the new Viking Age Spawn figures, which are set to appear in stores this October. Included in this series are action figures, accessories, new weapons, 12-inch sculptures, and more. The new monster series was also included in the list, and was quite impressive. The official Mcfarlane website has more details and images of these new toys.

Sports and movie superstar figures

Spawn was not the only impressive line of toys being displayed by Mcfarlane. They also had on display a new series of sports figures, which includes superstars from the NFL, NHL, NBA and Major League Baseball. The superstars will range from Ken Griffey Jr. to Shaquille O'neil, and come on plaques. Mcfarlane also had on display a line of 12-inch figures of character from movies. These characters included, Sarah Conner from Terminator 2, the Predator, the T2 Judgment Day model T-800 endoskeleton, the alien from Alien, and more.

Star Trek LEGOs

Art Asylum was busy at this year’s convention, while showing off their impressive line of new Star Trek toys. Most notable of all, were the new Star Trek figures and accessories. Virtually all characters from the hit TV show are available in LEGO form, and the new LEGO sets allow users to build about any ship or building from the series. New figures of characters from the Enterprise series can be found, as well as the new ones from the up and coming ST movie, Nemesis. There were other traditional action figures on hand as well.

Two Towers toys

With the new Lord of the Rings movie coming to theatres very soon, Toy Biz was quick to show off their new set of toys based on characters from the film. The series will feature characters from the Two Towers movie, and the amount of detail that went into each toy is quite amazing. All characters come with accessories and weapons that match those of the film perfectly. This series should hit stores before Christmas.

Classic Spiderman remakes

Toy Biz also had on display the new series of classic Spiderman remakes. The new action figures, which include old enemies and friends of Spiderman, will focus on the classic themes from comic books and TV shows of the original series. The release of the classic series will go along with other similar sets being release by Toy Biz, which include the Punisher and X-men.
